Beaumont Humane Society fire Tuesday night

BEAUMONT, TX (KTRK) -- Veterinarians in Beaumont are treating 11 dogs that survived a devastating fire at an animal shelter.

Investigators say that the fire Tuesday night killed 67 dogs, which is now being blamed on a dryer.

Shelter staffers and volunteers assisted firefighters in helping save the 11 dogs and the authorities with the Humane Society of Southeast Texas are accessing the damages at the shelter.

Several area businesses, groups, and individuals have taken it upon themselves to start relief efforts and the shelter stated, "We could not be more grateful to everyone who is stepping up to help us, from the volunteers who showed up last night to everyone who is keeping us in their thoughts and prayers today."

For those who would like to help, monetary donations or gift cards are most needed. You can donate at the shelter or through PayPal on their website HERE.
