Ex-Houston Oilers physician dies in car wreck
Doctor Robert Fain died when his car ran off the road and crashed into a tree near the intersection of South Brasewood and Kirby.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- He worked among some of the most famous faces from the Houston Oilers.

Dr. Robert Fain and his father were doctors to the NFL team for decades. Former quarterback Dan Pastorini was a close family friend.

Most recently, he worked at Memorial Hermann Hospital.

George Corona worked by Dr. Fain's side as his assistant in the operating room. They formed a friendship after 15 years together at a private practice.

Corona came to visit where Dr. Gain lost his life last night.

"How could this happen? Good people just need to be here longer," Corona said.

A wooden cross and roses are left behind marking the area where Fain's car struck trees on South Braeswood near Kirby.

He was the only one in the car.

Corona shared this story about Fain.

"I was in an accident myself. I was out I couldn't work. And I remember him just saying here this check right here will help you cover for some of your bills.

Eric Gutierrez knew Fain from his visits at the River Oaks Country Club over the years.

Many there described the doctor as always happy.

Gutierrez said, "I just saw him last night. I guess I served him his last dinner. It was heartbreaking."
