TARRYTOWN, NY -- One person is dead and two others are missing after a tugboat overturned Saturday morning.

Around 5:20 a.m., a tugboat struck a construction barge near the site where the new Tappan Zee Bridge is being built.

The tugboat sunk. One person was pulled from the water and died.

Two people remain missing. Search crews from several agencies are on the scene.

The Coast Guard confirms the boat was carrying workers on the West Nyack side of the bridge.

The tug is called The Specialist; it was not working on the bridge project. The tug had come from the north and was traveling south down the Hudson River when the accident occurred.

It was transporting another barge, not associated with construction, attached to its side. It hit the fixed construction barge head on and took on water. The barge was in the center channel under the bridge.

The currents are too rough for divers to safely enter the water.

An oil slick and large pieces of debris were visible in the water.
