Lake Conroe temporarily closed to boaters, Pooja Lodhia reports.

CONROE, TX (KTRK) -- If you were planning on heading out on Lake Conroe, you might want to make other plans. San Jacinto River Authority officials have temporarily closed Lake Conroe to motorized boat traffic.

"I was shocked. I've never heard of something like that happening," said Michael Hill, the general manager of Sams Boat Lake Conroe in Montgomery. "The lake is fuller than I've ever seen it, in all my decades here."

Water levels are currently two feet higher than usual. The last time the lake reached this level was in November 2002.

Next week is Spring Break, which is usually the busiest time of year on Lake Conroe.

"I can totally understand why they made that decision," added Hall. "At the same time, so many people came out and planned their weekends here."

There's no telling when the restriction will be lifted.
