Spring Break tipping

A lot of people are planning to take upcoming trips, especially with spring break and if you are heading out next week there are some things you need to keep in mind- who should you tip and who should you skip?

Diane Gottsman with The Protocol School of Texas says first up at the airport-- if you do airport curbside check in-- you are paying for convenience, so it's $3 to $5 for each bag.

If you are grabbing a cab-- the minimum is ten percent to 15 percent, but if you have bags, consider 20 percent to the driver if he helps you with your luggage.

Out at restaurants the standard is moving up to 18 percent when you have good service, 20 percent for excellent service.

At the hotel, you don't have to tip the door man but if the bellman helps you with your items it's generally $1 to $2 per bag.

"If you have one heavy bag you want to tip them accordingly, so I say the minimum of $3 - 5 dollars," said Gottsman.

What about the hotel concierge? For quick directions -no tip is required. But for general theater tickets or dinner reservations the tip $5 to $10.

And don't forget about the housekeeper!

"He or she works hard to make our room sparkly clean so that is someone you tip daily not per week, because they change for day to day," said Gottsman.
