WALNUT CREEK, CA -- A car flew off of I-680 in Walnut Creek, California, and tore through a building trapping the two people inside the car.
The BMW flew off I-680, through a parking lot and hit the building on Boulevard Circle, wedging itself upside down. It had barely missed an ambulance that was staged in the parking lot. The male driver and female passenger were stuck inside. Firefighters had to secure the building, to make sure it wouldn't collapse, as they went in to rescue the two people.
"We had to bring our extrication tools down in there and cut both doors off while the vehicle was upside down and deal with two victims that had major injuries," said Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Batt. Chief Ed Gonzales.
The male and female were taken to the hospital with major injuries. The CHP says the Contra Costa County sheriff's department started this pursuit.
There is no word on what started the chase.
