Reward offered in case of hunting dog killed in Wharton County

A Wharton County man is searching for answers after he said his hunting dog was stolen and later found shot to death. He's offering a reward of up to $3,340.

In a community out in Wharton County, Terry Gallagher, 22, found the perfect place to train his labs and start his hunting and fishing business, Stringer Stretcher Outfitters LL.

"This is my life and I'm going to do what it takes to protect it," said Gallagher.

Only a year into his business and already the unimaginable happened just a few weeks ago.

"He was three years and seven days old when he went missing and unfortunately that's as old as he was able to get," said Gallagher.

His best friend Kaetch, he said, was shot dead and placed in a trash bag under a bridge.

"I got to the scene, I see an orange collar. I get down to the bottom of the ditch and I just froze," remembers Gallagher.

He said the day Kaetch disappeared he found the gate open as if someone got him out.

"When that dog took that bullet it waited for help," believes Gallagher.

He said this isn't the first time he's lost one of his dogs. Late last year, he said someone may have poisoned another pup.

"I just wanted my best friend, my hunting partner, the biggest aspect of my life -- he saved me from myself," said Gallagher.

He knows he won't be able to get Kaetch back. His next mission, find the person responsible and money, he said, is not an issue.

"We're coming for you right now there's a $3,340 reward on your head and I'm not gonna stop there's people donating every day you got me twice there won't be a third," said Gallagher.
