HOUSTON (KTRK) -- In an exclusive jailhouse interview, the 18-year-old charged in the murder of his mother's common law husband said he has always protected his family.

Treveon Jones is accused of murdering Frederick Wallace on Wednesday morning in north Houston.

Surveillance video of the scene shows his mother calling police for help about half an hour before the shooting. Police say Wallace assaulted her with her young kids in the car, and after calling them, she also called Treveon.

In the video, you can see Treveon arrive on scene and shoot into Wallace's car as he's driving away.

Treveon said Saturday that Wallace had been physically and sexually assaulting his mother for about ten years.

"I love my mom and my family so much," Treveon said.

He said he had been sending money to his younger siblings for years and claims that he had reported the alleged abuse to police several times, but nothing happened.

"Police weren't doing anything. It's a natural reaction," Treveon added.

He is in jail on a $50,000 bond.
