Goforth Investigation
Activist calls for Texas Rangers to take over Goforth investigation, Deborah Wrigley reports.

HARRIS COUNTY (KTRK) -- On the eve of the court appearance of the accused killer of Harris County Deputy Darren Goforth, an activist is delivering a list of demands and posing a question.

Shannon Miles is preparing to be transferred to a state mental hospital, after being declared incompetent. His attorney says such a move would make it more difficult to continue to investigate his case.

Activist Quanell X held a news conference Sunday on the street where the alleged mistress of the deputy lives. He wants the Texas Rangers to take over the investigation of the case, in which Deputy Goforth was shot more than a dozen times, while at a gas station, fueling his patrol car.

A mystery woman ran to Goforth and held him in her arms. She later told investigators she had a relationship with him. Since then, a sheriff's department homicide detective has been fired for having a sexual relationship with the same woman, while investigating the murder. A deputy was fired this month, for the same reason. A patrol deputy was also fired for sending inappropriate text messages to the woman.

"This case reads like a damn Lifetime movie script," Quanell X said.

"What's the real truth about your(mistress) relationship with Darren Goforth, the other deputies, and did you really have a relationship with Shannon Miles," he asked.

"I've been in this neighborhood," he said. "And that's based on direct eyewitness testimony and people who've seen things."

He did not identify those people.

"If Quanell X has that type of information and wants to be of help to Mr Miles, he'll provide us with those names," Miles attorney Anthony Osso responded. "It's easy to provide anonymous tips. We get them all the time."

Osso said his office has received similar information and has to investigate each one. Two investigators are working on Miles case.

So far, those tips haven't proven any link between Miles and the alleged mistress.
