Officer in President Obama's motorcade crashes motorcycle in California

LOS ANGELES, CA (KTRK) -- A California Highway Patrol officer in President Barack Obama's motorcade was injured in a crash while escorting the president through West Los Angeles on Friday.

The motorcycle officer went down around 10 a.m. on the southbound 405 Freeway at Olympic Boulevard. The officer was taken to a local hospital, but was said to be OK. Further details regarding the crash were not released.

An Eyewitness News viewer captured part of the crash on cellphone video.

The CHP said they were investigating what caused the officer to crash on the 405 Freeway.

The crash did not delay Obama's trip to Los Angeles International Airport. He landed at Palm Springs International Airport at about 11:40 a.m.

Obama is set to host a summit with leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Rancho Mirage early next week.

On Thursday, Obama taped an interview with Ellen DeGeneres at the Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank and then attended two separate fundraising events in Hancock Park before spending the night in Westwood.

Obama has visited California some two dozen times during his presidency. He was last in Southern California in December, when he visited relatives of the 14 people killed in a shooting in San Bernardino.
