The man fled the scene in a car and led police on a short chase. Police say they tried unsuccessfully to use a stun gun on him, and when he lunged at officers with the machete in one hand and a knife in the other, they say an officer shot him.

Police have not released the man's name.

It's unclear what sparked the attacks. The investigation is ongoing.
