LIBERTY COUNTY (KTRK) -- Following an attempted kidnapping in Liberty County, a lot of law enforcement could be seen in the Monte Bello subdivision.

From school district police, to deputies and citizens on patrol, their presence was felt Tuesday.

"Make sure the people in here are supposed to be here," Father Ted Smith said. "The abduction's something new and we certainly don't want that to happen."

Authorities in Liberty County are warning parents and students after a 13-year-old boy was nearly kidnapped at gunpoint by two masked men. The suspects followed the boy after he got off the school bus.

Parents at Cleveland Middle School were informed by the district about the incident.

"Does that surprise you that somebody would do that to a middle school student?" abc13's Deborah Wrigley asked.

"Not any more, no," a parent replied.

Extra patrols will remain in the area with visibility at bus stops. A security camera on-board the bus may provide details about the getaway vehicle. An image has been sent to the DPS for examination.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Liberty County Sheriff's Office at (936) 336-4500 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 392-7867.
