A gas station awning collapsed on camera while maintenance workers were cleaning it

TORRANCE, CA (KTRK) -- Stunning surveillance video of a California gas station shows the moment the station's awning came crashing down.

The collapse happened Monday in Torrance. Two people, amazingly, received only minor injuries.

One of those people was a worker cleaning the roof. He told a Gisell Vazquez, of Green Clean Xpress, that as he pulled a panel out to clean it, the roof started to collapse. The workers told witnesses they noticed cracks in the structure.

One worker received minor injuries and was treated at the scene and released. The other worker fell with the steel roof, but fortunately was unscathed.

Vazquez told local station KTLA, "There was a car in there, and I guess there was a passenger inside one of the cars and he got so scared that he just got out of the car running."

Engineers and safety inspectors from the gas station's parent company shut down the station after the collapse.
