Stretch Your Dollar: Big deals and sales coming in February
February is a month for big sales, depending on what is on your shopping list.

February could mean some great deals in shopping, but there are a few things you're also going to want to hold off on.

First, keep an eye out for tax software deals. Some promotions will slash 30 to 50 percent off programs from H&R Block, TurboTax and more.

In general, these discounts won't get much better as Tax Day approaches, so if you see a temporary discount, you might want to jump on it!

Next, we are talking smartphones. Don't purchase just yet. Here's where you will want to wait for new models.

Normally spring is when we see the big Android and Windows flagship models debut. So if you are interested in a new HTC or Samsung phone, maybe wait until these manufacturers release their new models, so you can score a deal on the previous generation.

Also, winter apparel continues to fill the clearance racks because of an unusually warm fall and early winter. Retailers are swamped with unsold coats, scarves, and sweaters that will be on deep discounts. So buy now. Just keep in mind many items will be final sale.

Super Bowl season is also big-screen TV season, but you can get a good deal on mid-size TVs in the 40-to-55 inch range anytime, so you don't necessarily need to rush to buy that size TV this month.

Finally, prepare for Presidents' Day sales. Clothing at all these major retailers will see that final sale discount. Mattresses and furniture usually have big price slashes, too.
