Apartment fire in SW Houston
Fire leaves residents searching for another place to sleep, Christine Dobbyn reports.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- An afternoon fire damaged several apartment units at the Chateaux Apartments in southwest Houston.

Firefighters arrived to the 5400 block of Beverly Hill Street Sunday afternoon and was able to put the fire out by 1pm.

The resident who lives in the unit where it started says the area beneath the stove, the storage area, is where he first saw flames and smoke. He called 9-1-1 and once firefighters arrived they pulled a second alarm.

The resident with the most damage says he is relieved no one was hurt.

"I would say in a matter of five to ten minutes it really started picking up. That was nothing I could do in that circumstance," Jonah Smith said. "I felt the fire department was the best call to make."

Residents who were displaced as a result of the fire are getting assistance for the night.
