A California woman is giving away her car after she sustained a brain injury from a beating in a park

LODI, CA (KTRK) -- A Lodi, California, woman who survived a brutal beating in a park and brain surgery is staying positive and giving back to her community.

Jackie Pickett was beaten with a baseball bat while walking her dog on January 4. She was left for dead after the attack, KCRA reports.

After brain surgery that left her with seven titanium plates and 31 staples in her head, Pickett is home and thinking of others. She has decided to donate her car to someone else in need. Because of her brain injury, she will not be able to drive for at least six months.

Jackie said, "The power of positivity will bring so much greatness and pleasure and happiness into your life."

The community has rallied around Jackie and her recovery, giving donations from fundraisers.

Jackie is attending physical therapy to rebuild her strength, but she plans to go to school to study kinesiology, the study of human movement.
