BAYTOWN, TX (KTRK) -- A fight between a couple ended in an officer-involved shooting in Baytown overnight, according to investigators. Authorities report 28-year-old Anthony Chapman was shot after he tried to drive away from officers.

The gunfire happened in the parking lot of the Rosemont at Baytown apartment complex off Garth Road.

Investigators said they were called out to the scene by his estranged wife who reported Chapman was destroying property.

When officers arrived to the scene, they explain Chapman tried to flee in a silver sedan. An officer's hand became entangled in a car window when Chapman put the car in reverse.

Baytown police Lieutenant Eric Freed said the officer feared for his life, opened fire, and struck Chapman.

Chapman was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. Police said he was alert at the time. The officer went to a nearby hospital to be treated for an injured hand.
