Officials mark opening of new law enforcement office in northern Galveston County

BACLIFF, TX (KTRK) -- An ongoing effort to rid crime in the northern part of Galveston County is hitting a milestone this evening.

Authorities are gathering at 6:30pm tonight to perform at a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new Galveston County Sheriff's Office facility.

The new building, located at 811 Grand Avenue in Bacliff, was once known to residents as the Lucky U gambling hall. Authorities took possession of it during a raid several years ago.

Officials say their decision to open the new office there is an attempt to curb gambling, prostitution and drug activity plaguing the San Leon, Bacliff, Bayview and Kemah area. It will be occupied by the sheriff's department and the Galveston County Precinct 1 Constable Rick Sharp.

Many Galveston County officials are expected to attend the event, including: Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset, Galveston County Judge Mark Henry, Galveston County Commissioner for the District Ryan Dennard, other County Commissioners, Prencint 1 Constable Rick Sharp, Galveston County District Attorney Jack Roady, other Galveston County officials.
