HOUSTON (KTRK) --A fundraiser is underway for a young girl gunned down last weekend in Houston.
Family and friends of 15-year old Victoria Cantu want to raise $5,000 for a proper burial. They are selling BBQ plates at Legends Sports Bar, located at 12343 Murphy Road in Stafford. They told abc13 they'll be there throughout Saturday night.
Cantu died last Sunday night after someone opened fire on a car she was in with two friends. According to investigators, the gunfire happened near I-45 and Dyna. Detectives said the two males in the car drove 4 miles north before stopping at a Whataburger to call for help.
Her killer remains on the run.
Saturday afternoon, Victoria's father Gregory Cantu opened up about the devastating loss. He told abc13 Victoria loved track, cheer-leading, and often listened to Selena Gomez. He is praying for justice.
"She was a beautifully spirited girl with a great heart. She loved to play with kids. Everybody loved her. She loved everybody also. She was just a normal child, a normal child," said Cantu. "We're trying to cope. I'm still in shock. It hasn't hit me yet. I don't know the feeling I'm feeling. There are a lot of mixed emotions. I've very sad. My baby girl was taken from me."
