GARLAND, TX (KTRK) -- Police say the tornado that devastated north Texas the day after Christmas has claimed a ninth victim.

Leonardo Mota, 35, was among 15 people who were transported to local hospitals with various injuries when that tornado ripped through Garland on December 26, 2015.

Mota died late Friday night at a medical center in Plano.

Garland police say Mota was traveling in a vehicle on I-30 when the tornado swept across the highway.
