Harris Co. woman claims she stole money because she's a "single mom"

HARRIS COUNTY (KTRK) -- A Harris County woman has an interesting excuse for stealing money from her job -- she blames it on being a "single mom".

Authorities say Amber Freeman is charged with stealing money from her employer, Nordstrom. Freeman allegedly created fake returns so she could credit money into her own credit card.

Freeman told investigators she did it because she was under a lot of stress of being a single mom of two children.

The scheme lasted from early September through October, totaling up to more than $3,000 in fake returns.
