Donald Trump: Ted Cruz's Canadian birth could stir controversy
The Republican frontrunner says he hopes Ted Cruz can put questions to rest over his birth and citizenship.

A new controversy for Donald Trump, but it has the feel of an old controversy.

Critics say comments the Republican presidential frontrunner made about his opponent Texas Senator Ted Cruz's birth in Canada is similar to statements made in the past against President Obama.

Trump says he is not questioning Cruz, but others are.

"The problem is that if the Democrats bring a lawsuit, the lawsuit could take years to resolve," Trump says. "How do you have a candidate where there is something over the head of the party and that individual?"

Cruz formally gave up his Canadian citizenship in 2014. Prior to that, he held dual citizenship status.

He doesn't hide the fact that he was born in Canada and says he's eligible to run for president.
