Houstonians ring 2016 with downtown party

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Hundres of people attended Houston's family-friendly New Year's Eve celebration featuring recording artists B-52's.

The main stage was located in the Houston Theater District at Smith and Texas. The free event offered music, food, fun, and a spectacular fireworks display presented by City of Houston. A kids area featured entertainment and an early New Year's Eve countdown along with other indoor performances.

Residents all across the Bayou City gathered in the Houston Theater District to enjoy free music and a beautiful fireworks display.

The official Houston New Year's Eve celebration ended with a fireworks show and a surprise wedding proposal.
