HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Early Saturday morning, Harris County fire investigators filed arson charges against a man they say is responsible for setting a home on fire with his mom inside.

"Channelview Fire Department requested fire investigators at approximately 1:35 a.m. to assist with a residential fire," said Public Information Officer Rachel Moreno. "Investigators determined the defendant used an open flame to set a couch on fire."

Louis Vasquez was arrested and charged with arson for setting the home located in the 16000 block of Red Oak on fire.

Vasquez's mother received second degree burns escaping the fire, and is currently at Memorial Herman recovering.

An adult male and two juveniles were also able to escape the fire.
