Tips to cut your power bill

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The fastest way to save money on your power bill may be changing provider.

When the summer months end, the cost of natural gas goes down and that means you can probably find a better rate.

If your contract is coming to an end you could save several hundred dollars a year by getting a lower rate, right now some are as low as 8 cents per kilowatt hour. Depending on how much you use, the savings can add up quickly.

"When you are using 25 thousand plus that equates to 2500 dollars a year , so I would say that is significant," said Troy Donovan with Centerpoint Energy.

Websites such as Mytruecost.com and Powertochoose.org can help you find lower rates.
