Counter top options for kitchen rebuilds
Consider butcher block or other stone-like options when rebuilding your kitchen after Hurricane Harvey.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Many homeowners who are rebuilding after Hurricane Harvey are going to need completely new kitchens.

That means they will likely be in the market for counter tops and other materials.

There are some options that won't break the bank. And that means granite isn't the only way to go.

The average price for granite typically ranges from $50 to $100 per square foot.

Consider butcher block counter tops instead.

Designer Lisa Goe Roberts with The Luxe Designer says they're durable and give you a rustic feel and look.

If you want something that gives you that real stone look, check out Formica countertops.

This material comes in several stone-like options and the price is right.

Formica counter tops typically sell for about half the cost of granite.

But if you love stone, check out F B Granite Marble Inc. off West Hardy Rd. in North Houston.

It's off the beaten path, but the location has a big scrap yard with many low priced options for granite.
