Sewing shop stitching up a storm in Katy

KATY, TX (KTRK) -- What began as a hobby more than ten years ago has now become a full-time job for Katy resident, Kimberly Hervey.

"I started collecting antique sewing machines because I love the character and story behind each one," said Hervey. "I can't help but think of all the clothes they have made for families and generations through the years."

She's the owner of Kimberly's Stitchery and Mercantile, where she sells, services and even teaches her customers everything she knows about her passion for vintage sewing machines.

Kimberly's collection includes of hundreds of Singers, Jones, and hand-cranks start from the mid-1800's. Customers drive in from all over the state of Texas and even the nation to visit her shop.

"People come in and they see a machine that maybe their great aunt or great Grandmother sewed on," said Hervey. "And all of the sudden they are just captured in that moment again, it's great."
