PHOTOS: Coney Island annual sand sculpting contest

CONEY ISLAND, NY -- Plenty of sand sculptors put their skills to the test at the 25th anniversary Coney Island sand sculpting contest.

The competition brought some of the top professionals and amateurs to the beach. The contest started in 1990 with 20 families competing.

This year had the largest turnout, with 100 participants.

Galveston Island is no stranger to sand castles, with their annual competition as well.
