Woman tries to steal expensive ring by eating it

OREM, UT (KTRK) -- A Utah woman is accused of stealing from a jewelry store. Police say she ate an expensive ring to try to sneak it out of the store.

Christina Schlegel, 25, of Orem Utah was arrested after she and a 30-year-old man were caught stealing from a Zales jewelry store. Police tracked down Schlegel and her partner after they left the store and say she swallowed the ring worth thousands of dollars to try to hide the evidence.

An x-ray showed the ring sitting inside of Schlegel's stomach. She and the man are now facing felony theft charges.

Police did not saw how they plan to recover the ring.
