HOUSTON (KTRK) -- It may be a gorgeous day outside, but despite the cooler temperatures. Mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus are still a real threat.

Just look at the latest numbers, this year, 1,285 mosquitoes tested positive for the West Nile Virus. Last year, only 147 mosquitoes tested positive in the city of Houston and Harris county.

The number of people testing positive for West Nile is also up; 123 people tested positive for West Nile, that's compared to 9 last year.

More aggressive lately is the aerial spraying for mosquitoes in several area counties, especially after one person died from West Nile in Montgomery County and another in Harris County.

But, after plenty of rainfall, there could be more issues.

"This is a big number for us. We are expecting to see a little bit more because we are looking at some cases out there," said Porfirio Villarreal from the Houston Department Health and Human Services.
