A new study suggests that going cold turkey may be the best way to quit smoking.

Researchers followed 700 smokers throughout their quitting process. One group was given a single day to quit, the other had two weeks to gradually stop smoking.

The study found that the group that stopped smoking abruptly was ten percent less likely to pick the habit back up a month later. That number dropped to 65 percent six months later.

All of the participants received nicotine patches to help them stop smoking and counseling after their quit day.
