One of the world's smallest babies is finally going home

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- One of the world's smallest babies is finally going home.

Elayah Faith was born September 23 via an emergency C-section in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was about 14 weeks early and, at 10 ounces, weighed less than a soda can.

"Even our equipment, even our diapers that we have for our smallest babies were too big for her. So, we had to be very creative in taking care of her," a doctor at her hospital told WBTV-TV in Charlotte.

The little girl is a big fighter, though. She endured blood transfusions and months of careful treatment.

Now she's 5 pounds, 7 ounces and doctors are amazed at her progress.

"She has grown, she has been able to breathe on her own and she looks around, she pays attention to her surroundings she knows her mom's voice she knows her dads voice and I'm amazed she has come this far and is able to go home," the doctor said.

Her parents are ecstatic they're finally able to take her home.

"I want to know who she is. She is feisty. I'm ready to see what's in store," her mother, Megan Smith, said.
