Make one pedicure last all summer with these tips
Pedicures can really add up fast, so we asked the experts how one pedicure can go the distance this summer.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- While it's not officially summer just yet, it is sandal season! Are your feet ready?

Pedicures can really add up fast, so we asked the experts how one pedicure can go the distance this summer.

Rachel Gower at the Upper Hand Salon says invest in a pedicure once at the beginning of the summer. Once you do that, you start with a clean slate.

Then you can make your own at-home pedicure kit. You will need a filer, buffer, clippers, a cuticle remover, and cuticle oil. You will also need an exfoliating product.

Gower gives rave reviews for Sally Hansen's foot polish and cream for $8.

If you want to supplement your store bought products, you can make your own sea salt foot scrub at home.

"If you haven't made your own sea salt scrub, you really should try it. It is so much fun and it smells great and you can customize it, and you are also going to stretch your dollar because it is so much cheaper," Gower said.

Using the recipe below, just scrub onto your feet for a few minutes and then rinse off. You can do this once a week.

If your problem is dead, dry skin, try the Listerine foot soak.

"It's all the rage on Pinterest," Gower said.

You can use any plastic container or foot bath. Combine the ingredients below and soak your feet in the solution for 10 minutes. Your dead, dry skin peels right off with a towel.

To maintain super soft, silky feet, you could buy one of the pro's favorite products. They recommend Foot Logix Daily Maintenance Formula for $30.

Since that's a budget buster, at night before you go to bed, simple use half a tablespoon of essential oil on each foot. Lather it on, put on some socks, and you'll wake up with moisturized feet.
