COOL SPACES: Flotation therapy at MIZU
A luxurious form of relaxation therapy favored by professional athletes is now available to all Houstonians.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A luxurious form of relaxation therapy favored by professional athletes like JJ Watt and Stephen Curry is now available to all Houstonians.

MIZU Integrative Medicine Clinic + Float Center, located in the Tanglewood area, is the first luxury clinic to offer state-of-the-art floatation pods, allowing users to suspend their bodies and relax their joints and muscles in a calm, still environment.

Each of the three flotation pods resembles a sleek, futuristic spaceship filled with a highly saturated solution of magnesium sulfate salt and water. Inside, the body naturally floats, and the musculoskeletal systems decompresses, relaxes and stops fighting gravity.

Clinical research has shown that flotation therapy promotes meditation, reduces stress hormone levels, relieves joint and muscle pain and reduces blood pressure.

MIZU's unique concept to wellness targets all five senses the minute you walk in the door. "Everything that we do at MIZU has some purpose and science behind it," said Dr. Mahyar Badrei. "The way that the floors are designed, the heights of the doors, the elevation of the lighting and the colors that you see."

Every detail, including the abstract art, colors, lighting aroma and music, was carefully curated by Dr. Badrei and his wife, Dr. Hannah Badrie.

The two opened the cutting-edge clinic after immersing themselves in Japan's Kyoto region, where they first witnessed the inspiring approach to wellness and healthcare.

MIZU, which means 'water' in Japanese, also offers preventive care, wellness exams, chronic care management, herbal medicine, acupuncture, cognitive behavioral therapy and nutrition medicine.
