STAFFORD, TX (KTRK) -- The community is reaching out to a 10-year-old boy in need of a new heart.

Friends and neighbors held a sidewalk sale at the Vineyard Church in Stafford Saturday to raise money for Carter Jones. He has a rare condition called restrictive cardiomyopathy that affects the blood flow in his heart.

Carter is on the heart transplant waiting list at Texas Children's Hospital. The fundraiser will help pay his medical expenses.

"We couldn't have made it this far without the support that we received. And it helps Carter, too," said Carter's mother, Tiffany. "It helps him get through another day. It helps us emotionally. It helps us financially. It gives us the support to make it through another day."

Carter's mother says her son is doing well right now. He's being home-schooled and still plays with friends but can't compete in sports anymore.
