New Year's fitness goals
Bring on the New Year and those new fitness goals!

Get those New Year resolutions ready! As 2017 approaches, many Americans are planning to get in shape.

The Department of Health and Human Services recommends 150 minutes of moderate activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity weekly.

When creating a new fitness program for yourself, it's a good idea to start by measuring your aerobic and muscular fitness levels, your flexibility and body composition.

You should also visit a doctor to make sure you don't have any unknown medical conditions. As you put your plan together, think about what you want to achieve -- whether you want to lose weight or get in better shape.

Writing down your fitness plan will also help you stick to it.

Your plan should include a mix of different activities to keep boredom at bay and help develop different parts of your body. Make sure you purchase the necessary equipment, and be sure to choose shoes that are appropriate for the exercise you have in mind.

Are you ready to meet those goals? Happy New Year!
