The best food at this year's State Fair of Texas
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Carnival rides. All the fried food you can eat. And yes, Big Tex too!
The 2014 State Fair of Texas begins today in Dallas, and there is plenty to see, do and eat if you're making the trip.
A few weeks ago, the fair unveiled the eight finalists for this year's Big Tex Choice Awards, and there's something for everyone.
This years finalists included the Chicken Fried Loaded Baked Potato, Fried Sriracha Balls, Fried Gulf Shrimp Boil, Deep Fried "Breakfast for Dinner," Deep Fried Texas Bluebonnet, Fried Sweet Texas, Twisted Texas Taco, and a Funnel Cake Ale to wash it all down.
This year's 'Best Taste' winner was the Fried Gulf Shrimp Boil. The 'Most Creative' award went to the Funnel Cake Ale.
Other new foods to try at this year's fair include:
- Biscuit Fries with Chocolate Gravy
- Deep Fried Smoked Brisket
- Deep Fried Sweet Tea
- Texas Fried Chicken in a Waffle Cone
- Hot Soul Cake
