Officials in Pennsylvania warn of exploding wine bottles

HARRISBURG, PA -- The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is warning consumers about exploding bottles of wine.

In an alert issued Monday, the PLCB said there have been several reports of bottles spontaneously exploding in state liquor stores.

The wine at the center of the alert is Indigenous Selections Prosecco Brut 2013 (code 33283), 750 ml.

The PLCB said customers should not return the bottle, but instead "dispose of it immediately."

"Consumers should use caution when handling this product," said Chairman Joseph E. Brion in a statement. "While we have not had any reports from consumers who may have been affected, we want to take every precaution in order to avoid a safety issue."

Brion went on to say customers can get a full refund.

The Indigenous Selections Prosecco Brut 2013 was sold for $12.99 in approximately 180 stores starting in early June, the PLCB said.

The PLCB went on to note that the wine has been removed from stores and they are working to determine the cause of the issue.
