You're still paying the price for Hurricane Ike
Check out the fine print on your power bill: You'll be paying for Hurricane Ike's public utilities bill until 2024

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Hurricane Ike slammed into Houston in 2008.

But you're still paying for it.

Just look at your power bill, just like eagle-eyed ABC-13 viewer Magee Miller did.

"I saw all these incidentals for hurricane Ike and that was 6 years ago," Miller said.

Those incidentals come $2.25 a month on a 1000 kilowatt bill.

The state Public Utilities Commission says it's a way to reimburse Centerpoint $663 million for the repairs they needed to made after Hurricane Ike.

And you'll keep paying too. Officials say they've only collected a third of the amount.

That means you'll see that you'll keep paying the tab until 2024.

Is there anything you can do about it?

"Nothing unless you get your own windmill," Miller said.
