THOMPSONS, Texas (KTRK) -- The road to recovery takes us to the small town of Thompsons in Fort Bend County where residents may be eligible for financial assistance starting today.

Residents are being asked to go to City Hall to register for help buying things like medication or household supplies.

Getting back on your feet after a flood is not easy. For those with a limited income it can be even more difficult.

"Whatever they might need, we are here to help them on the spot, and not make them wait. We are going to give out our cash cards today," said Carolyn Allen from Galveston County Community Action.

The cash cards will be given to those who qualify.

The team is asking everyone to bring the right documentation to speed up the process.

"We ask them to bring their proof of income, their proof of identification. We ask them to bring any kind of documentation as far as income they might have. And needs, certainly bring a list of household needs that they have," said Jaime Longoria with the Hidalgo County Community Service Agency.

The team will be at the Thompsons City Hall today and Friday registering those who need help.

There is an income requirement, but the folks here are encouraging anyone who needs help to come down and see if they are eligible.
