Teen has two mothers
Between the egg donor and the woman who raised her, a local teen feels double blessed

LEAGUE CITY, TX (KTRK) -- A 'typical' family is often hard to define these days. In this case, a teenage girl with two mothers, as she describes it, is not what you would expect. Modern science and social media brought them together.

"This is my egg donor Mom, who is my biological Mom in a way," explained Brittan Gilmore. "And this is my Mom who raised me and put up with me."

One daughter, two moms. Gilmore's parents conceived her by using an egg donation.

"Not a lot of people can say that, though. I've never met another egg donor child," she said. "It's weird."

We first introduced you to Gilmore last month on abc13 when she met JoLana Talbot, her egg donor from League City. They are the first donor pair to publicly meet in the US. Gilmore searched for years online. Finally, she found Talbot's information posted on an online registry. Talbot registered with the fertility clinic in case someone needed her medical information.

"It was meant to be somehow," Janet Schreibman said.

The group recently spent time together in Missouri City while Gilmore was in town visiting colleges.

"It's always been natural," Talbot said. "It's like we're family."

You can see the family resemblance, first, in their eyes.

"We have like the same arms," Gilmore said. "I cry like during commercials and she cries walking outside. I know where I get that from now."

Beyond that, the mothers hit it off immediately.

"I don't think every woman could be comfortable with it," Schreibman said. "Well, I say Britton did not choose her path, we chose the way she was conceived."

"We want to build that relationship," Talbot added. "We want to be a part of each other's lives and the sisters as well."

Now, Gilmore also has two half-sisters, ages 19 and 14.

"it's all of a sudden, this is your family, very sudden," said Kristyn, one of the teens. "It feels like she's always been my sister."

Talbot originally donated her eggs to help others who couldn't have children, which means Gilmore could have even more siblings.

"I've always wanted siblings and to have the two sisters is like a complete blessing," Gilmore said. "The possibility of having others is overwhelming and exciting."
