Technology brings daughter's California wedding to cancer-stricken mom's hospital bed

KENWOOD, CA -- A wedding goes high-tech, but it's not to show off the latest technology. It's so the bride's mother, who is battling late-stage cancer, can watch the wedding live from her hospital bed in Southern California.

In so many ways, it was the most non-traditional, yet perfect wedding seen at the Chateau St. Jean Winery in Sonoma County.

There was a drone taking pictures of the ceremony, the bride had a GoPro camera in her bouquet and a production crew was helping to livestream the entire event. The only person missing was the bride's mother who was battling cancer.

Like thousands of people, the mother watched the wedding streaming live from her hospital bed in Southern California through The Knot's website. The Knot is an online wedding resource site.

The bride Samantha Carisch and the groom Taylor Sinclair were among thousands of engaged couples who wrote about their unique story.

"I am so happy today and I'm happy because I know she's watching and she knows that we are so joyous and excited," Carish said.

The couple's application went viral and the fact that the family and friends rallied around them helped them get tons of voters and ended up winning.

The wedding was paid for by The Knot" and other local vendors like the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn.

"I just wanted her to be happy and we had some rough times getting to this day, but you couldn't ask for anything better than this," Sinclair said.

The couple will honeymoon in Tahiti -- no drones allowed.
