HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A Halloween costume drive benefiting children impacted by Hurricane Harvey has already distributed more than 900 costumes, and they're still accepting donations.

One organizer, Becky Schmidt, says that donated costumes have overtaken the bottom story of her home. Schmidt has organized the following drop-off locations, which are open until October 13:

  • 2815 Texas Laurel Dr (Firethorne)
  • 25739 Celtic Terrace (Cinco)
  • Cammarata Pediatric Dentistry (all locations)
  • Westwood Gymnastics

Schmidt and her co-organizer Michelle Donahue didn't know each other before they joined for this good cause.

"A mutual friend of ours saw that both of us were collecting costumes and put us in touch with each other. From there, we joined forces," said Schmist

On Oct. 15, the Courtyard Marriott in Katy Mills will also accept donations between 1 and 4 p.m.

Schmidt asks that costumes are donated in gallon-size Ziploc bags that are labeled with the costume size. She has also set up a Facebook group with more information about the drive.

Those who cannot donate costumes are also able to donate cash through a GoFundMe account.
