HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Fifty-thousands people are expected to descend upon Eleanor Tinsley Park in an area just west of downtown Houston for Southwest Airlines Freedom over Texas.
Hundreds of workers are putting the final touches on the entertainment stages and the launch site for the evenings fireworks spectacular.
3500 fireworks will launch during a 17 minute display, which begins at roughly 9:30pm Friday.
The city of Houston's lead planner for the event, Susan Christian, says the entertainment and fireworks will go off rain or shine.
"This is going to be a great event with something for everyone," she tells Eyewitness News. "The new design of Eleanor Tinsley Park allows us to make the event more comfortable for visitors."
The main stage, which this year will feature country singer Jennifer Nettles, was previously built on Allen Parkway. For the first time it's constructed off the street on the grass in the park adjacent to Buffalo Bayou.
The gates to the event open at four o'clock in the afternoon.
If you can't make it, you can watch the event streaming on the Watch ABC app.
If you're not heading downtown, there are plenty of other ways to celebrate the Fourth of July tomorrow. Here's a list of events around town.
