NORFOLK, VA (KTRK) -- It took nearly a century, but a Virginia woman finally has her high school diploma.
Lela Babb Burden, 111, received an honorary diploma from Norfolk public schools this week. She was a student back in 1918 when the flu pandemic hit. Her school was shut down to prevent the spread and she never returned to the classroom.
Burden raised a family and remains involved in her community, where she's lived for the past 107 years.
