Transcript issues blamed for loss of scholarship
A student athlete's family believes troubles in Spring ISD may have affected her college scholarship

SPRING, TX (KTRK) -- A former Spring ISD family says the transcript issues plaguing seniors now are related to the same issues their daughter faced last year and cost her a scholarship.

Sarah Boykin was a star volleyball player at Spring High School last year. Her work on the court was recognized by Dillard University in New Orleans, who offered her a spot on their volleyball team and a $15,000 a year scholarship. But just one month before she began her freshman year at Dillard, she learned her final transcript made her ineligible to play.

"It was very devastating for her too to not be able to play college volleyball," said Miracle Boykin, Sarah's mother. "She's been training since she's been in the 9th grade."

Boykin's final transcript revealed she was not in the top half of her graduating class, a place she held throughout her high school career while maintaining a 3.5 GPA. In order to play on a college level, Sarah needed to be in the top half of her class and have a 2.0 GPA.

"We knew something was wrong because we have the documentation to prove it," said Miracle Boykin.

The Boykins believe the transcript issues plaguing Spring ISD seniors now are related to the issues their daughter faced. Currently a third of all Spring ISD seniors are in jeopardy of not graduating because of what the district calls "serious issues and irregularities" with transcripts. More than 600 seniors at Spring High School, Westfield High School and Dekaney High School are scrambling to get enough credits to graduate this May. Some students are taking evening classes, online classes and even Saturday classes.

Eyewitness News reached out to Spring ISD regarding this story. A spokesperson told us they don't believe Boykin's issues are related to the current transcript problems they are seeing. Spring ISD officials also said once the investigation is concluded with the current students, they will go back and investigate other cases dating as far back as 2008.
