HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Homeowners in Houston ISD will not see an increase in their school taxes next school year if district officials have their way.
The Houston school board will consider a proposal being submitted by administrators Thursday that would maintain the district's current tax rate.
Officials say the current tax rate will fund a $1.864 billion budget the board of trustees approved for the 2015-2016 school year in June.
HISD administrators say they will also continue offering a local homestead exemption that goes beyond the state's mandated exemption.
If trustees approve the proposal, residents within HISD would have the lowest school tax rate in Harris County.
