More movies than math at schools?
The last days of school are often spent on fun and games, but at what cost?

Not all of our kids are out of school quite yet. But we're close.

Houston schools let out last week and more districts are out today. That means that black boards and white boards are being replaced by the silver screen. How many kids are watching the hit movie 'Frozen' or some other fun flick? Don't get me wrong. I love Frozen and since our parent company Disney put it out I hope you see it often this summer.

But on your own dime.

Movies are roughly two hours long. In Texas, that's what the state calls a half-day of school. And for every pupil who stays in a classroom for two hours the school gets $15 in state funding.

Multiply that by $22 and it's $330 per class sitting through a movie.

I don't have a frozen heart. But isn't there a different way we can send our children out on summer break?
