CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (KTRK) -- A wanted man in Iowa should have known better than to go outside to watch the eclipse. His decision put him in jail.
Iowa state police had been looking for 26-year-old Ladarius Blue since June when he failed to register as a sex offender. This week, they narrowed their search to a house in Cedar Rapids and set up surveillance on the home Monday.
About 1 p.m.. they saw Blue leave step outside the house to watch the solar eclipse. But when officers approached him, Blue ran off and led officers on a foot chase through several neighborhoods.
Police lost him but then a homeowner called and reported a man had climbed into his yard waste container.
That's where police finally found and arrested Blue who didn't get to see the eclipse after all.
