City Hall vigil honors those lost during Harvey
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Three weeks ago, much of the Houston region was underwater. People were forced out of their homes and into high water, and thousands are still living with Harvey's aftermath.
On Sunday night, those who lost loved ones during the storm joined Mayor Sylvester Turner and took time to pause and reflect.
"Houston over the last three weeks has been at its very best - people exemplifying strong," Turner said.
It was also a vigil with prayers, praise and candles in the dark.
In the crowd was the family of Joseph Dowell, a city public works employee who lost his life during the storm as he tried to get to work.
"He lost his life going to help other people," said pastor Terrence Hall.
Dowell's funeral was Saturday, and he was posthumously awarded a city proclamation.
